681 and done!

January 8, 2013

Well this post is a few days old and Jason Lester has already completed the Epicman Challenge in 51 hours.  Seriously, how does he do it?  26 marathons in 26 days, 2 days off and then triple ironman (7.2 mile swim, 336 mile bike and 78.6 mile run).  Hurts just thinking about it.  While Jason Lester kicks it in beast mode, Julie and I have been dancing around with our 681 mile challenge.  When we started we were running 10 and biking 10 each day.  I had decided I was going to do all my biking on the weekends with one ride during the week.  Along the way we had to make some changes, but we completed our mission.

This is how our breakdown worked out:

December 13 – 10 mile run (Dan)

December 14 – 10 mile run (Dan and Julie)

December 15 – 10 mile run, 40 mile bike (Dan), 10 mile run, 20 mile bike (Julie)

December 16 – 87 mile bike (Dan), 10 mile run and 20 mile bike (Julie)

December 17 – 12 mile run (Dan), 10 mile run (Julie)

December 18 – 10 mile run (Dan), 10 mile run (Julie)

December 19 – 5 mile run (Dan)

December 20 – 5 mile run, 20 mile bike (Dan)

December 21 – 10 mile run, 40 mile bike (Dan)

December 22 – 10 mile run, 40.5 mile bike (Dan), Julie 10 mile run

December 23 – 10 mile run, 20 mile bike (Dan)

December 24 – 5 mile run, 40 mile bike (Dan), Julie and Dan travel home for Xmas

December 25 – 5 mile run (Dan & Julie)

December 26 – 5 mile run, 30 miles – indoor trainer (Dan), 10 mile run (Julie)

December 27 – Xmas with Dad and snowstorm = no training

December 28 – 5 mile run, 50 mile bike – indoor trainer, 5 mile run (Julie)

December 29 – 5 mile run, 20 mile bike (Dan)

December 30 – 30 mile bike (Dan)

December 31 – 45 mile bike (Dan)

Total = 699.5 miles

In addition to our miles, my mom donated a total of 20 miles to us and my good friend John Rogers donated 25 miles to our cause  (and a monetary donation – thanks JOHNNY BOY)

Although some days I questioned why Julie and I were doing this challenge I am glad that we were able to finish the miles.  It was a great accomplishment for us and a built a good base for us heading into 2013.  We have big plans (In our heads for this year- soon to be on paper) and hope that we can transfer these from our heads to the podium :)

15 weeks to NOLA time to focus!
